Pininfarina Battista- A dream to reality!

When Indian conglomerate Mahindra brought majority stake in Pininfarina, we thought it was to use the ailing design houses’ expertise for their cars in India (or even their Korean subsidiary Ssangyong). An electric car division was also distantly rumored, owning to their affliation with Formula-E. However, things have completely blown out of proportions since and as you can see, ‘Pininfarina Automobili’ has now claimed the world’s fastest road going car- The Battista.

Although the car-making division of Pininfarina is just one year old, the brand has amassed quite a bit of rep in the millionaire circles. Some of it obviously has to do with Pininfarina– as one of Italy’s finest, and the respect for its founder Battista Farina- who always wanted Pininfarina to be an OEM. However, to stand out as an ‘Italian’ among Ferrari and Lamborghini requires quite a bit of flare, and a hell lot of substance! That’s why the brand employed some of the best in the business- engineers and designers who have worked everywhere from Bugatti to Pagani, at Mercedes, Porsche and even McLaren. The flexibility of electric powertrain and proven technology from the Mahindra E division have allowed them to freely work their wonder- and we are in awe!

Pininfarina will only make 150 of these alleged $2.2 million hyper car. It is was showcased in  gray, blue, and white colors at Geneva but many more are expected to follow- tailored to their customer’s tastes.
