Yamaha T7 Tenere (MT-07 Adventure) spied

Yamaha MT-07 Adventure T7

Yamaha had showcased the T7 Ténéré concept amidst much fanfare at the 2016 EICMA show (missed it?) in Milan. Though it was confirmed that the bike would go into production, never had we expected it to be this soon.

The T7 Ténéré / MT-07 Adventure, under its thick jousting outfit, looks almost production ready. Hopefully, it will gracefully fill the void left by the XT660Z Ténéré when it was taken off production citing tighter emission norms.

Here are more details of the T7 Ténéré:

Price $7,399*

Yamaha T7 Tenere / MT-07 Adventure design, specs

Though the spied T7 Tenere is not Dakar-spec like its concept, the production version does offer lots of exciting features. Its ride height is lower and a pillion seat has been incorporated to be user-friendly. The stacked, twin headlamp front fascia has been retained, and so has other rally features like large lower shroud, bash guard and thick radiator protection.

The bike offers what appear to be 21in front and 18in rear wheels –shod with Pirelli Scorpion MT90 dual-sport tyres. While many of its features are shared with the MT-07 (including the visible digital instrument cluster and main chassis), the swing arm has been change to a straight dual-beam with monoshock suspension linkage. It also features inverted front forks, long and wide handlebars, and upswept exhaust canister.

Yamaha T7 Tenere / MT-07 Adventure engine

Powering the T7 Tenere is the same 689cc twin engine which powers the MT-07. It produces 74 bhp on the latter, and the engine’s free-revving nature has proven exciting on all the motorcycles it was fitted in.

The mill is mated to a 6-speed transmission. ABS is present as standard.

Yamaha T7 Tenere / MT-07 variants, competition, price and release date

The production T7 Tenere is likely to debut later this year and could go on sale early next year. Price isn’t revealed yet but something higher than the £6199 ($7,199) of the MT-07 is to be expected.

Yamaha could launch 2-3 variants of the T7, the top end model coming with more extreme adventure features. It’s biggest competition now is the Triumph Tiger 800 XC but bikes like the upcoming KTM 790 Adventure and 2018 BMW F850GS will make the segment very exciting in the future.
