What does this mean for the R15 V3?

In an interview with Powerdrift, Mr Roy Kurian, Senior VP, Sales & Marketing, Yamaha India said:

“We launch over 150 motorcycles every year around the globe. This does not mean that we have to bring all the motorcycles to India. We will follow a country-specific strategy and in India we already have the R15 and R15 S on sale in India (which has been updated to BS4 norms). We do not know if there is a requirement for R15 V3 in India.”

This comes as a nail in the coffin for many people waiting for the R15 V3 in India. When he mentioned ‘a country-specific strategy’ it must have meant the Fazer 250. We can also rule out earlier rumours of the V3 reaching dealerships as the both V2 and S have been updated to BS-IV.

With launch of the more powerful Fazer 250 there will not be space for the R15 V3 in India. The FZ 25 already occupies the R15’s price segment and the Fazer is slotted at Rs. 10-15,000 over this range.

This doesn’t mean that Yamaha will completely kill of a successful product like the R15 but an update, if any, cannot be expected in the near future. Till then, the current models will continue.Fazer 250 vs R15

Yamaha Fazer 25 design

The new Yamaha Fazer 25 has a respectable design and it does give off a bigger bike feel. Its sides looks good and the rear, being similar to the FZ25, is nice too. Where the bike loses its plot is at the front. The single headlamp set-up isn’t ‘Yamaha’ level and we’d have loved it if the manufacturer put some extra effort.

Changes from the FZ25 include new dual horns, different seat material and new position for the pilot lamps, apart from the obvios addition of fairing.
